Ensemble Opportunities
Crescendo Young Musician's Guild
Crescendo Young Musician's Guild (CYMG) is a youth chamber music organization in the Arcadia-Pasadena area. Students are grouped into small ensembles and coached weekly by a coach (Liz Elliot is one of the coaches). There are Fall and Spring terms and both a community outreach concert, and a performance at the end of each term. This is a very flexible option for students as rehearsals are scheduled according to availability.
Pasadena Youth Symphony (PYSO) has 4 levels of orchestras and auditions are in the spring for the fall term. It is also possible to join mid-year if they have a need. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at Pasadena High School.
Verdugo Young Musicians' Association
Verdugo Young Musicians' Association (VYMA) meets on Tuesdays after school in Glendale. They have 3 levels of orchestras and auditions are in the fall for the fall term.
Adjudication Programs
Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) - Certificate of Merit (CM)
CM happens in March and is available to all students (strings and piano). They offer adjudication programs for levels Prep-Advanced (10), including repertoire, theory, technique and ear training. Evauluations can be done online via video, or in person.
American String Teacher's Association (ASTA) - Certificate of Advancement Program (CAP)
Similar to the CM program, ASTACAP runs all year long on various published dates, and does not have a theory element.
Performance Opportunities
Tuesday Musicale Juniors (TMJ) meets the second Saturday of each month. Membership (audition required) is only $10 for the year and attendance is not required.
Our LA County branch of MTAC offers many programs, competitions, recitals, master classes, chamber music festivals, etc.
ASTA also offers many programs, competitions, recitals, master classes, chamber music festivals, etc.
Music Teachers National Association
ASTA also offers many programs, competitions, recitals, master classes, chamber music festivals, etc.
Olympia is a youth symphony program for ages 12 to college. Auditions are in the fall and rehearsals are at Cal State LA on Sundays.
I offer piano duet coaching for students. I will pair students up with a similar age/level student and rehearse once a week for 15 minutes. Each rehearsal is only $10. Students will perform on our recital.
